If Your Why Doesn’t Make You Cry, Your Dreams Are Not Big Enough!

I’m really not sure who coined this phrase – What is Your Why? I’ve heard it multiple times over the years and it holds significant truth.   WHY do you do what you do?  WHY did you want to start your business?  WHY did you decide to go to college?  WHY did you want to be a musician or photographer or model?  WHY did you want to be a doctor, lawyer, scientist or engineer? WHY did you want to be an entrepreneur? WHY do you get up every single day and work?

What is your WHY?  You fill in the blank_______.  Everyone should have a WHY and there is no right or wrong answers here.   But if you find yourself unmotivated to work or if you want to procrastinate on your goals or dreams, then it’s time to re-examine the main reason you are doing what you are doing.

Name Your Reason – or Your WHY – You are Doing What You Are Doing.

Focusing on your WHY can help motivate you so write down your reason.  Did you need to do something to bring in money to cover your expenses.  Did you get sidetracked on a job really didn’t want to do and it distracted you from your original WHY?  And here you are now 5, 10 or 15 years later doing something that does not serve you and is not getting you to your true dreams and goals.  Sometimes life happens in such a way that we lose sight of where we were going and our WHY begins to dim and fade under the pressure of the day-to-day activities, we feel we need to do.

Writing these reasons down – no matter what they are because every person’s WHY will be different – should help motivate you to reignite your WHY and energize you to pursue your dreams.

So, remember your WHY.  You should feel driven to go the distance until you reach success.  To reignite yourself, you have to be willing to tackle things outside your comfort zone so that you can obtain the results you want to see in your future.

If you’re not feeling motivated, then you need to dig deeper.

Don’t be Afraid to Examine Your Inner Feelings

Life is fluid and ever-changing so it stands to reason that your WHY would change over time, a well. Even if you started down one road, you can change your WHY to something more meaningful at this place in time.

If your WHY has changed from what it was in the pass, you can envision your new WHY.

What are you passionate about?  Don’t be afraid to pursue something new.  We were created to pursue that thing that we are truly passionate about.  That thing that we would almost pay someone to allow us to just keep doing it over and over again.    Don’t be afraid to own your passions.

Don’t be Afraid to Switch Gears and Do Something Different

If your WHY is not in alignment with what you really want to do in life, you will never be happy.  You don’t want to get to the end of your life and be full of regrets because you didn’t pursue those big goals and dreams.  Make sure that your WHY is so big that you don’t know how you’re going to accomplish it all in one lifetime.  Make sure that you are passionate about WHY you are doing what you are doing and you won’t mind getting up everyday to have one more opportunity to pursue and accomplish your dream.
